At the weekend I had the pleasure of attending a workshop at VENTH Studios in East London. I had the benefit of not only working with a fantastic professional model, Olivia - but also had tuition and advice from Brian Venth, a brilliant portrait photographer.
Some of the best advice he gave was not to go into a shoot, or a look with a preconceived idea. Use what's around you, be it light, the surroundings or even objects that can make the shot more interesting (though obviously if there's a brief then work to that).
